UK Viewers Dream of TV Programmes Set in the South of France

Recent survey results, suggest that UK viewers want less reality TV and yearn to watch beautiful people in stunning surroundings. Period dramas are popular with romance and escapism high on the list.

One of the types of programmes that UK families love to watch are films and TV shows that are set in stunning locations in the South of France.

Cookery programmes, holiday shows, art documentaries, films or dramas it doesn't matter. So long as they all share a single theme of stunning scenery, smart towns, tiny medieval villages nestled in the hills, glamorous people, beaches, cafes, galleries and casinos.

Everyone loves a good look at luxury villas and apartments in the South of France. There are hundreds to choose from which are perfect for location shoots or just for a film crew and cast to rent, dotted around Mougins, Cannes, Grasse, Antibes, Valbonne, Mouans Sartoux, Théoule sur Mer, Vence, Opio, Biot, Saint-Aygulf and more.

Here are a few of the favourite TV shows shot in the South of France:

'The Persuaders'

Remember the classic car race between Roger Moore in the first episode of ultra cool TV-series 'The Persuaders'? With Moore as Lord Brett Sinclair in an Aston Martin and Curtis as Danny Wilde in a Ferrari, the wealthy playboys race from Nice airport to Monte Carlo casino. The pair investigate crimes which the police can't solve and get involved in challenging adventures. Complete opposites, they become great friends and constantly risk their own lives for one another.

Bergerac in 'Snow in Provence'

Starring John Nettles as Jim Bergerac and Terence Alexander as Hungerford, Therese Liotard as Danielle and David Kershaw as Ben Lomas, Bergerac is conned by Charlie into looking after a house in Provence and baby-sitting for two willful young girls while their parents are in Milan. finds himself caught up in a drug operation.

TV mini-series 'A Year in Provence' made in 1993

Directed by David Tucker, A Year in Provence is a series based on the real-life experiences of ad man, Peter Mayle and his wife who left their jobs and lives in England to move to the south of France. Beginning in winter, the series covers the Mayles' first year in Provence and dramatises the many trials and tribulations they faced, all set against the pastoral backdrop of the idyllic Provencal landscape.
