Hot Air Balloon Festivals 2011

Hot air ballooning is great fun for individuals, couples, families and groups of friends. Even better than this are balloon fiestas where hundreds of balloons come to one location for visitors to learn about and admire. In 2011 there are some great annual events set to happen; here are a few of them to pencil into your diary.

Balloons over Wairarapa, NZ

This event takes place in New Zealand from 17th-20th March. There is a live festival official radio station at 89.5 MoreFM providing information on event status daily. The event is free; look out for the Splash n Dash competition where balloons attempt to splash their baskets in the lake! You can pay to watch the Trust House Night Glow where all the balloons light up the sky choreographed to music which is a must see. You can also book a hot air balloon ride yourself during the fiesta.

Tiverton Balloon Festival, UK

This festival is new for this year taking place from 20th-22nd May at Hartnoll Farm. There are over 50 balloons expected to fly the skies and a Night Glow on the Friday and Saturday evenings. There will be lots of catering stalls and entertainment so this will be a great day out for all the family. If the event is a success a donation will be made to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

Tigard Balloon Festival, USA

This festival takes place from 24th-26th June in Tigard, USA. There is a lot happening at this event including: BBQ contest, festival of cars, youth soccer tournament and a carnival! There will be morning hot air balloon launches and Natural Night Glows in the evening. There is no opportunity for you to go on any at this festival, so this is perfect for spectators. If you want to try a flight for yourself then consider one of the other events where you can have a ride yourself.

Bristol International balloon Fiesta, UK

This is set to take place on 11th-14th August in the UK and attracts 500,000 visitors over the four days that the event is held. This fiesta is free and hot air balloon flight ascents are at 6am and 6pm. There are over 250 trade stands and catering stalls with a variety of entertainment suited to the whole family. You can watch 150 balloons lift off whilst soaking up the sunshine at Ashton Court.
