Solange Knowles Claims Officers Were ‘Discriminating’ In Miami Beach

Solange Knowles may have gone bananas with excitement on Twitter on Sunday when it was revealed that her sister, Beyonce, was pregnant, but she had some real trouble earlier in the weekend while carrying an inflatable yellow fruit in Miami Beach.

According to the Miami Beach Police, Solange was denied entry at a club over the weekend, while carrying a 5-foot tall banana, the department announced in a news release on Monday.

Solange reportedly told officers she was denied entry to the club due to the giant yellow faux-fruit, according to the MBPD report.

She also reportedly told officers, who were off duty at the club, that she was not allowed entry into the club due to racially motivated reasons.

When officers attempted to talk to her across the street, Solange claimed they pulled a “‘weapon’ on her, not a firearm, and threatened to deflate the banana,” the release read.

Solange Tweeted over the incident on Sunday, writing, “A police officer just pulled a weapon on me…. I have done NOTHING illegal, against the law, or anything of the sort… I am simply tired of police using arrogance, ego and authority as an offense.”

She also alleged that officers were “discriminating.”

“I have literally had my last leg with discriminating police! Miami police department will be notified,” she wrote. None of her Tweets mentioned the inflatable banana.

The matter has since been referred to the MBPD Interal Affairs Unit.

A rep for Solange was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.

Janet Jackson Won’t Attend Michael Jackson Tribute

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Janet Jackson said Monday she won’t attend a planned tribute concert for her older brother Michael in Wales because the show coincides with the trial of a doctor charged in the King of Pop’s death.

The singer’s one-sentence statement to The Associated Press does not criticize the show, as her brothers Jermaine and Randy have done, but cites the court case as her reason for not attending.

“Because of the trial, the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me,” her statement reads.

Her statement was released on what would have been her brother’s 53rd birthday.

Organizers of “Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert” have struggled to line up top-name acts and have been criticized by fans and the late singer’s estate for multiple reasons, including its costly tickets, timing and remote location.

The show is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Cardiff, Wales, and the singer’s mother, Katherine, and some of her children are scheduled to attend.

Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, and Cee Lo Green are the top-names listed as performers so far. Organizers had to rescind an offer to the band Kiss after fans and Michael Jackson’s estate noted that singer-bassist Gene Simmons had harshly criticized the pop singer over the years.

Opening statements in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray are scheduled to begin on Sept. 27. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty, could face up to four years in prison if convicted.

MovieMantz Review: ‘Fright Night’

‘Fright Night’ Thanks to movies like “Twilight” and TV shows like “True Blood,” vampires are all the rage these days. Then again, they always have been, but one beloved film that fans always seem to go back to is the original “Fright Night” from 1985.

That’s because the cult classic had a revisionist tongue-in-cheek attitude that made it refreshing, since it was clever and funny while still fitting the bill as an outstanding horror movie.

In the film, which was written and directed by Tom Holland, William Ragsdale played a horror buff who was firmly convinced that his charming new next-door neighbor, played by Chris Sarandon, was in fact a blood-sucking creature of the night. No one believed him, so he had to convince a washed-up B-movie “vampire killer” named Peter Vincent (played by the great Roddy McDowell) to help him drive a stake through his heart.

Though the remake doesn’t feel as fresh as the original film, it’s still just as entertaining, but for different reasons. Written by Marti Noxon (TV’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and directed by Craig Gillespie (“Lars and the Real Girl”), “Fright Night” retains the balance of humor and suspense that defined the 1985 version, but it does so with 3-D effects that are (for once) worth the price of admission, since they replicate the same in-your-face thrills that made the cheesy 3-D movies from yesteryear so much fun.

Instead of a small town in Iowa, the new “Fright Night” takes place in Las Vegas, where Peter Vincent passes his time as a jaded vampire expert and illusionist for a gaudy live stage show. David Tennant (TV’s “Doctor Who”) is hilarious and practically steals the movie as Vincent, since he plays him like a self-absorbed lush who – perhaps intentionally – bears a striking resemblance to Russell Brand.

Colin Farrell also seems to be having a blast as the sensual vampire next door, while Anton Yelchin gives a strong performance as his suspicious neighbor. The supporting cast members are also game for the fun, including Toni Collette (“The Sixth Sense”) as Charlie’s mother, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (“Superbad”) as Charlie’s best friend and Imogen Poots as Charlie’s girlfriend (and the object of Farrell’s affection).

From a structural standpoint, “Fright Night”
