Board for Censorship of Films in India Biased With Few Filmmakers When It Comes to Rating a Film

The Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) is a body regulating the content of the movies and television in India and works for an entertainment industry that mints billions by producing around 1200 movies every year becoming the largest industry in the world. Films are the next major source of Entertainment in India. Should the censor board be separated from the Information and Broadcast ministry, Government of India?

Off late, many known and not so known producers have raised their voices against the dualistic approach by the Central Board for censoring their movies irrationally. And this is not the first time that a few number of producers and filmmakers have gathered with complaints against the censor board.

1. Do you think on getting autonomous, the Central Board of Film Certification in India shall be more transparent and liberal as well?

2. Do you think that it is high time to revise completely the film rating system of films in India?

3. Do you think, the children of India have more access to the adult content than the adults?

4. Abuses, violence and porn has already reached the living rooms in India through TV shows and internet. Is the Board for Censorship having double standards for certain film producers? Is putting forward the reason of 'not suitable for viewers who are of an age less than 18 years' as an excuse or farce made by the apex film content regulating body?

It is high time to change the rules and structure of how a movie is certified. It is more than essential to have a highly educated jury that rates the content of movies and television more sensibly and with modern approach. The society of India has changed a lot since the guidelines were updated last time or never updated since they were framed.
