2010 has had a slew of movies released just begging people to get out of their homes and into the theaters. From 3D animated adventures and comic book heroes to mind-bending suspense and another vampire movie, Hollywood was able to make a buck or two as well as shove 3D into our faces some more. Aside from a remake and one original movie, this year's top 5 was dominated by sequels. Hopefully this is a trend that will stop next year.
5. Inception ($292 Mil)
Leo DiCaprio's latest blockbuster hit carried the summer box office returns single-handedly. The movie revolves around a group that's able to enter people's minds. This time, Leo and Co. needs to get into one person's mind to find some crucial info. The visuals are awesome, the cast is top notch, but the story is a bit confusing if you don't pay attention.
4. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($300 Mil)
Edward, Bella, and Jacob are back with another round of romance and horror to satisfy all of the Twilight fans worldwide. However, there's nothing here to bring in new converts. It's the same "torn between a sexy werewolf and a sexy vampire" story, with extra dialog and characters. Regardless of which team you're rooting for, there's plenty of substance here to keep fans asking this question: Which team is Bella on?
3. Iron Man 2 ($312 Mil)
Robert Downey Jr. puts on his best suit for the sequel to Iron Man. It may not have been as fresh as the first, but it's still packed full of action and great visuals. Plus, seeing Robert and Don Cheadle (War Machine) team up was awesome. Especially when they had to dish out a lead salad to a bunch of wannabe clones.
2. Alice in Wonderland ($319 Mil)
Tim Burton's adaptation of the famous novel may not appeal to everyone, but it's a stunning visual experience that helped boost the appeal of 3D. Seriously, watch the scene when Alice (Mia Wasikowska) meets The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) for the first time with a 3D TV. It's mind-blowing and creepy at the same time.
1. Toy Story 3 ($414 Mil)
Tim Allen, Tom Hanks and the gang are back for the third and final installment of this excellent animated trilogy. Andy is getting older and so is the rest of his family, which means that certain things (or toys) must be let go as time goes by. It's a heart warming movie that the whole family will love, especially if you every wished your toys could talk.
There are still a few more movies that are or about to come out, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Faster, Burlesque and Tangled. There's no telling if any of these movies will get one the list by year's end, but it's possible. Let's just hope the movies in 2011 will be better and original rather than sequels or carbon copies.
