Best Kid's Movies

Children have always been fascinated by movies. It is a great way for them to experience and learn new things. Here is a list of some of the must watch movies for kids that released before the 1990's.

The first movie in this list is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a kid's movie based on Chitty a magical car and was released way back in 1968. The movie is based on Ian Fleming's novel by the same name and has a script by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes. The movie starred Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes and featured songs by the Sherman Brothers. The movie was a major box office hit world over and there are plans to remake the film soon.

Walt Disney's Love Bug is the next kid's movie on the list. Released in 1969, the movie revolves around the adventures of Herbie, a white colored Volkswagen Beetle and its owner. The movie which is based on Gordon Buford's Car, Boy, Girl was a box office success and was the highest grosser of 1969. Four sequels followed Love Bug, but none of them were as successful as the first movie n the series.

Another famous kid's movie is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The movie was released in 1971 and featured Gene Wilder as Wonks. The movie which was adapted from Roald Dahl's novel, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is based on a boy's adventure in a chocolate factory. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score and is till date considered a cult classic.

The next movie on the list is the very famous kid's film, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. E.T. is a science fiction film released in 1982. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore, Robert MacNaughton and Dee Wallace. The movie is about a young boy Elliot who finds an extraterrestrial E.T. and how he helps E.T. return home. The movie which wonderfully showcased the friendship between the extraterrestrial and the young boy was a blockbuster at the box office. It remains one of the most successful films at the box office till date.

The Karate Kid is the final movie in the list. Released in 1984, it is a movie based on martial arts. The film tells the story of the coming of age of Daniel LaRusso played by Ralph Macchio. The movie also starred Pat Morita and Elisabeth Shue. The movie was a commercial success and paved way for a new genre of kid's movies.
