Bollywood Round Up - The Month That Was

With the month ending, it is the time to retrospect at the movies that hit the silver screen and their fate at the hands of the greatest critic - the box office. Here is a list of the Bollywood movies this month and how they fared at the ticket counter.

The first movie that launched this season was the Akshay Kumar starrer ribtickler Housefull - which released on the last day of the previous month. This movie seems to be the only one that can be considered to be a success this month. One of the common madcap comedies that can be seen in Bollywood, Housefull provided a lot of slapstick and situational comedy - just what the doctor ordered for Akshay Kumar's sagging career that was marred by some questionable decisions last year.

With Bollywood riding on the Housefull wave Yash Chopra's Badmaash Company, one of the few Indian con movies was released. The movie had an interesting premise and even had some good acting, but it wasn't what you would go to watch if you wanted an Oceans 11 or something.

The next release was Bumm Bumm Bole, which starred the child sensation Darsheel Safary with new comer Ziyah Vastani and Atul Kulkarni. This movie tried to create a balance between the life of the adults and the children, and tried to give the audience a taste of both. However, the movie suffered from an uninventive screenplay and prolonged sequences. Said to be filmed by Priyadarshan, one of the best directors in Bollywood, this movie left a lot to be desired.

The last movie, which was supposed to be the movie that put behind several movie releases and had them postponed was the big budget and much hyped Kites. With nothing new to offer to the international as well as national audience, this movie soon petered down into nothingness.
