Great British Pastimes

There are many things that make the UK great and one such thing is the wonderful pastimes that where not only once enjoyed but still around today. With a world that is providing technology for entertainment and the internet offering endless hours of amusement, this article will look at what the more traditional forms of entertainment are and how some of them are moving forward.

Punch and Judy

For many this was a familiar sight to people on their beach holidays up and down the UK. Once deemed the ideal show for families and children this entertaining event featured many characters including Mr Punch, Judy, Mr Beadle (the policeman) and of course the naughty crocodile. The show has not been with out its critics though. People deemed this show too violent as the re-occurrence of Mr Punch attacking his friends with a stick was thought to be giving people bad ideas, yet other people just considered it as fun. This seaside event is still very popular in family entertainment in the UK today and can often be seen at a seaside town near you.

Crazy Golf

Golf can be a challenging game to master. It requires a great level of skill and patience to get right combined of balance and power. Some people spend a life time mastering the game and still don't succeed. If you don't have that much time on your holiday then you might want to consider Crazy Golf. This is usually a series of small concrete paths each one featuring a small hole at the end, with different obstacles between the starting point and the hole. Your goal is to get the golf ball in the hole by hitting it with the golf club as few times as possible. Crazy Golf can be found all over the UK and with such an array of choice you are unlikely to find two the same. There is also Adventure Golf courses around and these are usually a bit more elaborate and feature a theme of pirates, for example.

Bingo

What British pastime list would be complete with out Bingo? All over the UK for many years people have undertaken the game of Bingo and won a small fortune. A long standing tradition that was once associated with the elderly population is still going strong. Now moving online the Bingo world has been opened up to a whole new generation and a much broader audience to include teenagers, housewives, young professionals and middle aged men. Online Bingo is available all over the internet and is no longer considered to be a holiday only entertainment. With so much Bingo online there are now even companies that highlight the best Bingo opportunities that are available to play online.

As highlighted in the article some British pastimes are not only still around but going from strength to strength. Bingo for example has found a new platform and shows no signs of slowing down in a world that enjoys online entertainment.
