Winfrey received the award in recognition of the way she has changed the face of daytime television.

She recently ended her programme "The Oprah Winfrey Show" after 25 years.

American singer Gladys Knight, entrepreneur Celine Dion and actress Ellen DeGeneres paid tribute to the 57-year-old.

"For the past 25 years, the world has been lucky to call you a friend. I will miss you and I love you," said Ellen in a video message.

Winfey could not attend the ceremony and accepted the award in a video message, reports contactmusic.com.

"We are sorry we couldn't be there to celebrate. On behalf of the entire team, we thank you for honouring our show, we thank you for 25 years. This show has served as a platform to enlighten and entertain our millions of viewers ... it has been a phenomenon that none of us could have imagined in our wildest dreams. None of this would have been possible without the support of the best team in television. Thank you!" she said.
