Has Modern Technology Destroyed Fly-Fishing?

In this world of instant gratification, the implementation of modern technology into the sport of fishing has somewhat diminished the fun. It has gone from technique to technology. Anglers now have everything from fish finders to speed boats. It no longer tasked skill and artistry to catch a fish. It takes money, pure and simple. But does it have to stay that way?

Electronics Changed Fishing for Good

Electronics have changed fishing from a sport to a business. More and more anglers are caught up in the concept of competition. Then, of course, they need to have the best equipment the most modern equipment, in other words the latest toys. What happened to the idea of just catching fish and relaxing? Fly-fishing brings one back to the real sport of fishing. In this sport, the fish has a better chance of getting away. It is as much of an art as it is of a sport.

Fly-Fishing Allows You to Get Back to Nature

For those who like the satisfaction of out witting a fish in its own environment while learning about nature and its beauty, fly-fishing might be for you. Getting back to nature is the icing on the cake. Solitude and enjoyment doesn't hurt either. Maybe slowing down and revisiting the early sport of fishing is just one of the enjoyments of fly-fishing. Still, taking in the beauty of nature has its own rewards.

Enjoy Every Aspect of the Catch

Once one begins fly-fishing, you can branch out to all aspects of the sport from learning how to tie flies, to researching fish, stalking fish in clear water, and the subtleties of fly presentations. You can even get into the manufacturing of fly rods, from building early bamboo poles to the new technology of graphite and composite rods. This is different from using modern cheats like previously discussed because you learn to do this for yourself. This is the Zen of fly-fishing!

The general concept or idea of fly-fishing is more of the art of slowing down and smelling the roses than the hustle and bustle of hunt and destroy fishing. It allows you to catch fish the way we were meant to. Not with fish detectors and speedboats, but to go one on one with nature and reel in the catch.
