Choosing a Fishing Rod? With Modern Technology, Your Choice Is No Longer Just a Bamboo Stick!

At one time a fishing rod was nothing more than a stick with a string dangling on the end with a piece of hooked shaped metal on the end of the string.

Boy, times have changed!

With modern day technology, fishing rods are a sophisticated piece of hunting equipment coming in sizes from two feet to twenty and are specialized for types of water as well as the kind of fish you are trying to catch. Line guides and a reel keep your fishing line neat and orderly so you do not tangle it up.

If you are looking for a casting rod, you want a longer stick as that gives you an advantage when tossing that lure into the brush.

Going after the big ones? You are surely looking for something that will handle the fight of a whopper and handle the shock when the fish strikes the bait.

Your choice of a grip is also something that is new to the fishing world as they are usually made of cork or a synthetic foam.

Spin casting rods are perfect where you spend your day casting and retrieving the bait or lure as there design is sleek and they are typically lightweight.

If you are fly fishing there are rods specifically made so you can put that lightweight fly right on the money.

For the larger fish and if you are going off shore, you want to grab a conventional spinning rod that is heavier as they are more suited to landing the larger fish and will handle the weight.

It does not matter what you like to reel in or how you like to spend your day on the water, just make sure that you spend the time picking out the right equipment from your local bait and tackle shop and if you are a rookie or just a casual angler, do not feel funny about buying a prepackaged kit for your adventures.
