A bridal shower is an occasion to get together before a wedding and celebrate the event with the bride-to-be. There are usually games, food and gift giving at most bridal showers. The event is normally put together by the bridal party. There is not set format to the event it can be as formal or informal as deemed appropriate. The best way to approach a bridal shower is to take into consideration the tastes of the bride; if she is a more formal person then the bridal shower should reflect that. If she is a casual person then the shower should probably be geared in that direction.
Themed Bridal Showers
Some bridal showers have themed gifts, in which case the gift should fit in with the theme. The tone is usually set by the bridal party or whoever plans the shower. Popular themes include gifts for the honeymoon, gifts centered on the couple's hobbies, and gifts for a room of the house. For a honeymoon theme all of the gifts should be things the bride or couple can use on their honeymoon. If you choose a room of the house theme then different guests are assigned a room of the house to buy a gift for. If the couple has a hobby that they both enjoy like for instance skiing, all of the gifts could center on their hobby.
No Rules
There are no rules for the shower as far as gift giving so it is really a good place to get creative. Handmade or heirloom gifts can be good choices. Or if you are attending a Jack and Jill wedding shower then you may want to consider getting a gift that the couple can enjoy together such as a gift card for dinner, spa or a store. Some brides sign up at gift registries at various stores. This can make it a lot easier to come up with a gift. During the gift giving portion of the shower someone, usually a member of the bridal party, should be responsible for writing down who gave what gift so that proper thanks you cards can be sent out at a later date.
