Best of British - Up and Coming British Designers

As London fashion week flags up more and more world class British designers, London shows that it really does deserve its reputation as a city of style. The Brits have a real unique style of their own both quirky and traditional, with a sense of humour. We look at the up and coming designers that are really making a name for themselves in British fashion.

Camilla Staerk

Camilla Staerk is a Danish label based in the UK. The designs are interesting and innovative. Her Spring Summer 2008 collection is inspired by traditional Japanese dress with large shapes folds and twists of fabric. She combines natural materials such as cotton silk and leather and neutral colours like peach and black with contrasting kimono prints.

Gil Carvalho

Gil Carvalho designs shoes with uncompromising quality and workmanship. He has already earnt his place amongst the worlds top shoe designers. Gil has a real A list following who love wearing his shoes to help them stand out from the crowd. Gil originally studied architecture but changed to a degree course at Cordwainers London College of fashion where he passed with honours.

Emma Cook

Emma Cook has been described as the next big thing. She is a graduate of Central St Martins and makes beautifully feminine clothes that are not too cute. Emma shows huge creativity with her clothes but still manages to keep them very wearable.

Aimee McWilliams

Aimee McWilliams clothes are hugely sought after and she is fast becoming one of the UK's most successful new designers. She has a history of awards and recognition for her high innovative approach and on graduation from Central St Martins College of Art and Design she was the winner of the L'Oreal total look award for the best collection. She has been offered jobs with some of the industries biggest names including Roberto Cavalli, John Galliano and Gianfranco Ferre. Aimee also awarded the Scottish designer of the year for 2006.

Hannah Marshall

Hannah Marshall is an emerging UK talent with an ethos of centered on designing experience through clothing. Her clothes have minimalist cuts and architectural lines in luxury and often contrasting fabrics. Hannah gained a first class degree from Colchester school of art and design in 2003 and has since gained experience with leading London and New York fashion designers. She is now a recognised designer and entrepreneur in her own right.

Julia Clancey

Julia Clancey is becoming recognised for her unique clothes that are both beautiful and sensual. She designs using fabrics such a silk and chiffon, which give a soft and fluid movement. Her signature styles include ballet skirts to baby dolls and bows and pleats to exotic trims.
