P&O Cruises the Best Selling Cruise Line in the UK

As the UK cruise holiday industry continues to grow, it's interesting to look at which cruise lines are dominating the market and why they are so successful. P&O Cruises continue to top this list time and time again as Britain's number one choice and when you look at the wide variety of ships, destinations and onboard experience it's not difficult understand why.

P&O Cruises have become synonymous with sea travel over the 170 years since they launched and more British passengers choose to book a P&O Cruise than any other cruise line. In 2010, they were voted Britain's Favourite Cruise Company at the Travel Weekly Globe Awards by readers of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.

This could be because their onboard experience brings a home from home atmosphere and entertainment specifically tailored for Brits, as well as menus designed for our taste buds and staff trained to deliver outstanding service. Compared with many of the other 'international' cruise lines, where you can't even enjoy a proper cup of tea, pint of beer or rasher of bacon and are expected to enjoy American comedians and maybe encounter staff with limited English, it's no surprise they are such a popular choice.

Although the average age of cruisers is falling, the more 'traditional' and mature Brit remain the largest age group to enjoy cruise holidays and P&O understand what they are looking for and are really the only line to constantly deliver it. It's partly the 'personal' touch, like seeing the officers and crew around the ship making sure all passengers are enjoying their holiday and that they continue to offer important nautical traditions of cruising like afternoon tea, silver service dining, formal evenings and top quality service, without being pressured for gratuities.

In 2011, P&O Cruises have 156 cruise holidays to choose from visiting 270 of the world's most wonderful destinations in 90 countries, more than any other British cruise line. They have more Southampton departures than anyone else, as well as every other option covered including the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Onboard, guests can pick from a wide selection of shore excursions as well as more than enough activities to be consistently occupied including first class spas and gyms; a dazzling choice of bars and restaurants; cinemas; theatres with shows every evening; dancing and cabaret lounges; shops; libraries and even golf simulators.

They offer the perfect cruise for UK cruisers at great value for money prices. Their cruises for next year start from around the equivalent of £85† per person per night and include accommodation, dining and all other meals on board, plus a host of day time and evening entertainment. Unlike some of their competitors, P&O Cruise holidays are priced in Pounds Sterling, as are shore excursions and any additional items you choose to purchase onboard, so unfavourable exchange rates don't affect guests. Take into account all the above and it more than explains their popularity and why other cruise lines have a lot to learn if they want to genuinely compete for the title.
